A Brief 70 Year History of Peerless
The Peerless Tree Expert Co. was founded in 1945 by William C. Koneazny of Hartford CT upon his return from the Merchant Marines.
At the end of WW2 William’s (Bill’s) best friend Cliff Dower was invited to join the company and later on Bills older brother Jack Koneazny also joined.
The Peerless Tree Expert Co. then began to grow. At that time Peerless serviced both residential estates and municipalities. Peerless covered a lot of ground, clearing roads and doing tree care in MA, CT, NY, PA and out to Cape Cod and the surrounding areas. After the Flood of ‘55 Peerless was called upon to open-up the rivers and roads again all through CT.
In the early 1990's, Bill’s son James Koneazny and then foreman Christopher Toomey purchased the company.
During that same time period a great friend of Peerless, Bob Carberry of Carberry Tree Service in Sharon CT decided to retire. Because of the years of good honest competition and similarity in tree care practices Bob asked Peerless to take over his entire customer list. He wanted his clients left in “good hands” he said.
Over the next 10 years the corporation moved its focus to offering high level tree care to homes and estates throughout the Berkshires and surrounding towns.
In 2005, the 60 year anniversary of the founding of Peerless, James (Jim) Koneazny purchased Chris's shares of the corporation and became the sole proprietor and President.
Peerless now has on staff licensed Arborists, Horticulturists and Turf Specialists with extensive knowledge of tree care, planting, fruit production and other green-industry related information.
Now in our 70th season, we are looking towards the future. We have employees that have been made partners in the corporation and we can't wait to see where we will be in another 10 years!
